Privacy policy

This site belongs to Upperhand LLC. This page explains what we collect when you visit getupperhand.io, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We've kept it short because there isn't much to say: we collect what you type into the contact form and very little else.

What we collect

What you send us. If you use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, your business name, the services you selected, and whatever you write in the message. You choose what to include. Nothing on the form is collected without you submitting it.

What your browser sends. Like every website, our hosting provider receives basic technical information when a page loads: your IP address, browser type, device type, the page you requested, and the time. We use this only to keep the site running and secure.

Performance data. Our host, Vercel, may collect anonymous measurements of how fast pages load. These do not identify you and are not combined with anything you submit.

Stored preferences. The site may store a small setting in your browser (for example, a display preference) so it remembers your choice next time. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.

What we don't do

We do not run advertising trackers, sell your information, or share it with data brokers. We do not build profiles of visitors. We do not use your contact details for marketing lists unless you ask us to.

How we use what you send

We use your contact details to reply to you and, if it turns into a project, to do the work. We keep contact form submissions in our email and in the tools we use to run the studio for as long as the conversation is live, and for a reasonable period after so we can pick it back up if you return.

Who else sees it

A few services help us run this site, and your information passes through them in the course of doing their job:

• Vercel hosts the site and delivers the contact form.
• Resend delivers contact form submissions to our inbox as email.
• Google Workspace is where that email lands.

Each of these handles data under its own privacy terms, and we only use them for the purposes above.

Cookies

We don't set advertising or tracking cookies. If we add analytics that use cookies in the future, we'll update this page and, where the law requires, ask first.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@getupperhand.io and we'll take care of it. You can also just not use the form and email us directly instead.

Children

This site is for businesses and the people who run them. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think we have, tell us and we'll remove it.

How long we keep it

Contact form messages stay in our email for as long as the conversation is useful. If it turns into a project, we keep it for the life of the work and for six years after, because that is how long we may need it for tax and contract records. If it goes nowhere, we clear it out within two years. Ask us to delete yours sooner and we will.

How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted connection. Form submissions travel encrypted to our email. Access to that inbox is limited to Upperhand's founders. We keep as little as possible, which is the most effective protection there is.

Why we are allowed to hold it

If you are in the UK or the EU, the law asks us to say on what basis we process your information. Two apply here. When you send the contact form, we handle your message to take steps at your request before any agreement, which is what the law calls pre-contractual necessity. For the technical information a web server receives, and for keeping records after a project, we rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure site and a properly documented business.

Where your information goes

We are in Chicago. Our suppliers, Vercel, Resend and Google Workspace, are United States companies, so if you contact us from outside the US your information is handled there. Each of them offers standard contractual clauses for that transfer, and we rely on those. We do not move your information anywhere else.

If you are in the UK or the EU

You have more rights than the ones listed above, and we will honor all of them. You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, object to us holding it at all, or ask us to send it to you or someone else in a portable format. Where we have asked your permission for something, you can withdraw it at any time.

Email hello@getupperhand.io and we will respond within one month. If we get it wrong, you are entitled to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in the EU it is the supervisory authority where you live.

If you are in California

In the last twelve months the only categories of personal information we have collected are identifiers, meaning your name and email address, commercial information, meaning the services you told us you were interested in, and internet activity, meaning the technical details a web server receives when a page loads. That is the whole list.

We have not sold or shared personal information, and we never will. We do not collect sensitive personal information and we do not use your information to build a profile of you.

You can ask to know what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and ask us to stop, and you can have someone you authorize ask on your behalf. We will not treat you any differently for asking. There is no worse price, no slower reply, and no reduced service for exercising any of this.

Links to other sites

We link out to our clients and to the work we have made for them. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else's site under somebody else's privacy terms, and we have no control over what they collect.

Changes

If we change how this site handles your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be called out plainly rather than buried.
